Welcome to the Isle of Skye!
Situated on the West coast of mainland Scotland, Skye is the largest and best known of the Inner Hebridean Islands.
One of Europe’s most dramatic and haunting lands, words can do little justice in describing the awesome beauty of the Isle of Skye. The majestic Cuillin Mountains dominate the rugged landscape, which is peppered with lochs, glens and tiny fishing villages.
Skye Backpackers is located in the picturesque fishing village of Kyleakin and is surrounded by mountains and sea.
It’s a small, cozy hostel with an open fire in the lounge, a lovely backyard garden, great self-catering kitchen and a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Kyleakin is the perfect base for exploring this magnificent Island and, unlike larger settlements on Skye, it is small enough to allow you to meet the friendly locals, enjoy a lively pub scene and above all, experience the tranquillity of its stunning seaside location.
Whatever you’re looking for – hillwalking, sightseeing, kayaking, mountain biking or the legendary faeries, this island will not disappoint. Our lovely hostel staff can also help arrange bus tours, boat trips and bike hire!
Kyleakin is on the main bus route and is also easily accessible from the train station at Kyle of Lochalsh on the mainland. We recommend stocking up on supplies before arriving in Kyleakin as there is no longer a village shop serving the community. There are a choice of pubs that serve evening meals but there is nowhere available in the village to buy your own ingredients. There are, however, COOP supermarkets nearby in both Kyle of Lochalsh and Broadford.
